Q1 - Did the trial address a clear question?

Can you tell what:

  • population was studied?
  • intervention was given?
  • comparator was given?
  • outcomes were measured and when?

Where to look for the information...

The best place to look for this information is in the methods section of a paper and the methods section of the abstract.

In this case the last paragraph on page 1599 has information about the population.

Look at the first paragraph on page 1600 to see what the intervention and comparator were (this is also shown in the third row of the figure charting the flow of patients through the trial on the top of page 1601).

The outcomes measured are described in the second column of page 1600.
